SB 1319

No group in the state of California aggressively champions the right to fish like the Central Coast Fisheries Conservation Coalition (CCFCC).  Our web site is reighttofish.com.  Our letterhead prominently displays at the top our support for the right to fish!  We have sued the state of California on more than one occasion attempting to protect the right to fish for state citizens.  We categorically proclaim that SB 1319 has absolutely nothing to do with the right to fish.  In fact, it seeks to destroy our fishing rights.  Anyone who claims that SB 1319 protects fishing rights is either ignorant of the true language of the legislation or duped by left-wing environmental groups.  There is absolutely no language in SB 1319 that protects fishing rights!

The CCFCC opposed SB 1319 at every stage of its trip through the state legislature.  We visited Sacramento lobbying against this bills defeat.  We wrote a strongly worded letter to Governor Schwarzenegger imploring him to veto this bill.  Up until the very end, we begged the drafters of this legislation to amend the bill to add protections of fishing rights.  They refused us at every stage.  This is a bill pushed by environmental groups that promotes additional “no-fish zones” up and down the coast of California.

In the summer of 2004, all major recreational fishing groups in California convened in San Luis Obispo to carefully analyze and debate this legislation.  Every single group except United Anglers strongly opposed this legislation. Tom Raftican and United Anglers were unable to point to a single sentence in this legislation that protects fishing rights.  SB 1319 is potentially the most destructive effort to destroy fishing rights ever forced on the citizens of this state.
